Whether you were in the office or at World MasterCard Fashion Week, Wednesday still felt like a "hump day." With two days of Canadian designers already behind us (see my recaps of Day 1 and Day 2), some of us have felt a little "fashion weak." #firstworldproblems. Day 3 at WMCFW started off with the Toronto Fashion Incubator's Press and Buyer's Brunch. This two-day event showcases the best in emerging talents. It's an amazing opportunity for media and retailers to directly interact with designers and their creations.
For lovers of street style, this was definitely the day to be at David Pecaut Square. Atelier Wonder and Hayley Elsaesser presented unisex collections that drifted heavily from the WMCFW norm of more traditional high-end womenswear.
ATELIER WONDER
Atelier Wonder, featuring a heavy urban/digital influence, large galactic motifs, and use of mixed materials, felt like the New York City club kid scene circa 2007. Kicking off the day with some fun video game inspired fashion, Atelier Wonder showed in the studio with a small but sweet collection. An excessive amount of textiles were explored and were paired with geometric sunnies. For some reason it reminded me so much of Jeremy Scott's SS15 show at NYFW in collaboration with Miley Cyrus.
TRIARCHY
As summer approaches, most of us have already been planning an out of town getaway (aka camping). However, you don't have to wear only sweats to the camp. Triarchy's fantastic denim FW15 collection will get you ready not only for the summer but also straight into fall. You're meant to roll around outside and get a little bit dirty. So ditch the sweats! Honestly, I wasn't very much excited about this collection as it reminded me so much of Roots. You know, lots of very cabin like pieces.
MALORIE URBANOVITCH
Strong to her aesthetic, Malorie Urbanovitch once again showed a collection with rich colours. This time, instead of opting for jewel tones, earthier colours have dominated the runway. As what is mainly the most chosen colours for fall and winter. Just like her previous collection, her popular material of choice were knits. Who says you can't be both stylish and comfortable? Plus, being cozy at the same time.
KLAXON HOWL
I didn't go Klaxon Howl's presentation last season but I've read an article about it being a men's vintage store. So I wasn't quite ecstatic in seeing the collection for fall and winter. Boy was I surprised when I found out there's a few women's wear! I apparently missed that when I preferred to not see his previous collection. The steampunk vibe was unmistakably present from head to toe as well as the colour palette.
HAYLEY ELSAESSER
You most definitely won't be seeing me wearing this much print but Hayley Elsaesser's shows are always entertaining to watch. Her whole collection include the entire rainbow, yet she made it easy for the different pieces toward together. Plus, everything looks undeniably comfortable! The collection featured heavily with her bread and butter of bright, bold patterns on casual wear. Think orange and green zebra prints or pink and yellow leopard spots. The only thing that challenged her clothing in excitement was her runway soundtrack. The Beegees are always the right choice.
MACKAGE
Mackage was so far the standout show of day three at WMCFW. Having both women's and men's outerwear, the collection featured heavily in what the brand is known for: leather, and all-black-everything. Highlights included cropped trousers for men and flared for women, fitted leather pants, oversize scarves, leather fringe, fur sleeves, and a selection of covetable capes.
